This month for Words on Wednesdays, we welcome local writer and journalist, Alan Cleaver who will be talking about his book ‘The Corpse Roads of Cumbria’ – winner of the Lakeland Book of the Year 2019.
Corpse Roads of Cumbria: Among the many ancient paths that criss-cross Cumbria are corpse roads which were used in medieval times to carry the dead from the remote parts of a parish to the mother church for burial. Around 30 of these still exist. Alan Cleaver and Lesley Park will detail their routes, talk about their history and describe the many legends and traditions surrounding them.
