Our team

Our experienced team are knowledgeable, passionate, friendly and welcoming. While we won’t have every title under the sun, we like to think that a good conversation and exchange of views on a shared recent read might lead you to a new discovery; something to broaden your horizons further still; something to start new conversations and debates.

Why didn’t I think of this first! I’m finally in the job I’ve always wanted, working in my own bookshop, sharing my passion for poetry and literature with others. I’ve finally stumbled here via various highways and byways including studying literature and creative writing, teaching English, tutoring, and working as a guide at the Wordsworth Trust. I live locally with my wife and two boys and Lorca the flatulent dog.

I feel fortunate to have been born and raised in the beautiful county of Cumbria. Recently retired from teaching you will now find me walking in the fells (trying to tick off the Wainwrights ) with my husband Colin and my Border Collie, Bella. I am an avid reader and a member of my local book club. I practise yoga daily which I find is good for my physical and mental health. I am looking forward to starting wild swimming once the weather is warmer.

I love wild swimming, kayaking and sitting next to water, so I guess you could say I'm living in the perfect spot for me here by Ullswater. I always have at least one book on the go, and I love listening to audiobooks whilst gardening. I am passionate about baking, especially my own artisan French style country loaves. I have two children in local schools, and two cats terrorising the local population of mice and birds. My background is being an academic in mathematics and computing science for which I make no apology. I’ll always love a good mathematics problem…

Originally from Norfolk, I've lived in London, Los Angeles and now the
Lake District. After a long career in newspaper and magazine design, and
raising two glorious daughters, I now enjoy writing plays, reading
novels and am obsessed with coffee... making it and drinking it. I also
adore my deaf dog Mabel.

Born and raised in rural Hampshire a stone's throw from Jane Austen's birthplace, I landed in Cumbria six years ago via Cologne, Singapore and Berlin. Outside of the world of books I will most likely be found pounding the lanes or yomping the fells with my dog Stanley in training for my next half marathon or marathon. As an antidote to the exertions of running I enjoy playing the piano and spending time in my garden surrounded by nature and the wonderful views (Cumbrian weather permitting that is).
