An evening with singer-songwriter Anne-Marie Sanderson

Anne-Marie Sanderson is a Cumbrian singer-songwriter whose music is at once earthy and airy, grounded yet ethereal. Drawing inspiration from nature, literature and the complexities and contradictions of modern life, Sanderson’s haunting melodies and poetic lyrics mesmerise and enchant, with transportive effects on listeners.

Her 2024 album, Old Light, has been described as “melodically divine” (BBC Introducing), “uplifting and gentle” (NARC), and “articulate and ethereal” (Rocking Magpie). Previous releases include her EP, Book Songs Vol. 1 (2018), a collection of songs inspired by the work of authors including Robert Macfarlane, Sarah Hall and Barbara Kingsolver. Anne-Marie brings an intimate and atmospheric set, blending the delicate introspection of Nick Drake with the expressive, ethereal tones of Kate Bush. Accompanying herself on guitar and piano, her performances are quietly powerful and deeply moving. Her music has been played on regional and national BBC radio, and she has toured in the UK, Europe and USA.

Anne-Marie joins us at Verey Books on the cusp of the release of her new album, Corydalis (out in January 2027). By turns mysterious, introspective, yearning and ultimately uplifting, Corydalis (named after the delicate yet resilient plant found growing in cracks in walls) shines a light on the power of little things and the glimmers to be found in unexpected places.
